RFID Frequency Choice for Hotel Credentials

We build the same visible product around very different credential technology. A hotel card can look identical on the outside and be unusable at the door because frequency, credential type or encoding does not match. We therefore lock the technical construction before treating artwork approval as a production release.

Start with the manufactured product

The two standard families used across our hospitality range are 125 kHz low frequency and 13.56 MHz high frequency/NFC. Those values identify broad operating bands; they do not prove that a particular card or wristband belongs in a particular system.

Our manufacturing record connects the visible body, embedded credential and encoding responsibility. Island location does not change the radio frequency, but mixed reader estates across resorts, residences, spas and leisure areas can change how many credential specifications a property actually needs.

125 kHz LF is a defined technical platform

A 125 kHz LF credential can be embedded in a CR80 card or a compatible wristband construction. We use it only where the installed readers and issuing workflow have been confirmed for that credential family.

The frequency is not a quality grade. It states how the credential communicates, not whether it carries the right identifier, memory structure or data for the property.

13.56 MHz HF/NFC covers more than one capability

A 13.56 MHz HF/NFC credential may support access, short-range interaction or other configured functions, but the frequency label alone does not specify security, memory or encoding. Those details remain part of the approved technical brief.

We can manufacture the credential into cards, silicone bodies or woven modules where the construction supports it. Every format receives its own test because antenna placement and presentation at a reader can differ.

A working sample is evidence, not a visual reference

A current credential gives the accountable technical team something real to identify and test. We record its confirmed characteristics rather than copying its colour, printed number or general appearance and assuming the electronics match.

For a property with room doors, lifts, lockers and leisure readers, the sample scope states which points it serves. One successful tap does not approve a credential for every reader on the site.

Encoding ownership is fixed before production

Some properties write data on site; others require a defined numbering or encoding file. We state who supplies data, who writes it and who approves the tested result. Blank and pre-encoded credentials are different production orders even when their printed faces are identical.

Variable data is reconciled to the physical quantity and retained with the production reference. A corrected artwork file cannot silently replace an approved encoding record.

Antenna placement and presentation belong in the sample test

The antenna sits differently inside a rigid card, a moulded silicone module and a textile wristband component. We hold placement within the approved construction and show the intended presentation point so the test reflects how a guest or staff member will actually use the product.

Reader mounting changes the gesture as well. A card presented flat at a room door, a band rotated at a locker and a wearable tapped at a leisure point do not create identical physical conditions. The sample test records both the credential result and any presentation limitation that must stay with the product brief. We then retain the tested construction as the manufacturing reference, including the module orientation that produced the approved result. Reorders cite that orientation instead of relying on a generic product name or an unlabelled sample photograph in future production.

When frequency choice is wrong

Selecting a credential because it says 125 kHz or 13.56 MHz is wrong when the exact credential type and encoding workflow remain unknown. Selecting a wristband because the card uses the same frequency is wrong for the same reason.

If the property cannot provide reliable system evidence or an accountable sample test, we do not release the run as a compatible access product. The honest manufacturing outcome is a hold, not a frequency-based guess.
