Real wood veneer hotel keycards represent the premium tier of sustainable credential for Caribbean hospitality. Unlike PVC keycards where every card is identical, each wood keycard carries the natural grain pattern of the specific wood species — bamboo, birch, walnut, maple, cherry, or beech — making every card a unique object. Guests receive a credential that communicates environmental commitment tangibly, in their hand, from the moment of check-in.

The RFID chip and antenna are precision-embedded between the wood veneer layers during manufacturing. The lock reader reads the MIFARE chip data — not the card material — so the natural wood substrate has zero effect on access compatibility. Wood keycards encode on your existing front desk encoding equipment exactly as conventional PVC keycards do.

Wood Species Options

Caribbean RFID offers sustainable wood keycards in six species to match your property's aesthetic:

• Bamboo — fast-growing grass with distinctive linear grain. The most sustainably produced wood substrate. Light tan to golden tones. Pairs well with eco-resort and nature lodge branding.
• Birch — pale, fine-grained hardwood with a clean, minimal aesthetic. Most versatile species for luxury branding, as it provides a near-neutral surface for laser engraving and printing.
• Walnut — rich dark brown with dramatic grain. The premium choice for luxury resort positioning. Laser engraving reveals the lighter wood beneath the dark surface for high-contrast branding.
• Maple — light, consistent grain in cream to pale gold tones. Clean, professional aesthetic suitable for business hotels and resort spas.
• Cherry — warm reddish-brown tones with flowing grain. Distinctive warmth that communicates Caribbean natural environment.
• Beech — pale, fine-grained with subtle fleck pattern. European aesthetic; popular with properties targeting Northern European guest markets.

FSC Chain-of-Custody Certification

All sustainable wood keycards from Caribbean RFID are manufactured using FSC chain-of-custody (CoC) certified wood veneer. FSC CoC certification means the wood can be traced from an FSC-certified, responsibly managed forest through every step of the supply chain to the finished keycard. Caribbean RFID provides the FSC CoC certificate number and documentation on request — suitable for Green Globe, Travelife, and EarthCheck audit submissions and ESG sustainability reporting.

Laser Engraving and Branding

Laser engraving is the preferred branding method for wood keycards. The laser burns the brand mark directly into the wood surface — permanent, tactile, and entirely chemical-free. The contrast between engraved and natural wood surface creates a distinctive premium quality that printing cannot replicate. Alternative options include UV printing on sealed surfaces and pad printing for colour applications.

Performance in Caribbean Conditions

Wood keycards with properly sealed or coated finishes perform reliably in Caribbean ambient conditions — heat, humidity, and the contents of pockets, wallets, and handbags during a typical guest stay. The key practical limitation is extended water immersion: wood keycards should not be continuously submerged in pools or ocean water over multiple days, as prolonged immersion can affect the wood veneer surface. For pool and beach use, a secondary silicone wristband is recommended. Caribbean RFID can supply matched silicone wristbands with the same chip configuration for dual-credential programmes.
